When you think of a personal training you probably picture an overly muscled guy in a tank top with a stop watch driving his clients to lift more reps on their bench press or squats or to pick up the pace on the treadmill. The client is gasping for breath and completely un-interested in their pace on the treadmill or their bench press maximum lift. Unfortunately for most personal training clients, this scenario is all too common. In the long run, these kinds of workouts lead to boredom, injury and burnout.
The truth is that most people do not enjoy exercise. I would like to pose the following question: Is that because exercise is just not fun, or is it because most trainers, instructors and gym members just don’t have the right mix? - We do not except excuses. Everyone has time to exercise, they just don’t. If you want anything bad enough, you will do what it takes to get it, and fitness is no different.
- Every client must take responsibility for his or her own success or failure.
- Exercise is the best medicine. Regular physical activity helps to prevent disease and injury, relives stress, increases energy, and stabilizes mood.
- The person is more important than the workout: even in a group setting, each individual deserves and will get our fullest attention. Most exercises can be modified or substituted to suit you and your fitness level.
- Life is more fun when you are fit.
